Udhampur/Jammu: Five members, including four children, of a family died and another was injured when a boulder hit a house in Udhampur district early on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at Barmean village in Ramnagar area, following which the house totally collapsed and five family members were buried, according to officials.
Locals and police rushed to the spot and recovered five bodies, and a injured person, Raj Singh, has been hospitalised, the officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Sharda Devi (35), Aarti Devi (16), Anu Devi (14), Swani Devi (12), and Pawan Singh (10), they added. (PTI)
A doctor at Udhampur hospital said that the head of the family Raj Singh son of Munshi Ram is undergoing treatment and is condition is serious.
The house was completely destroyed in the incident while police and locals rushed to spot after the tragedy and retrieved the dead bodies and shifted injured head of the family to the hospital.
“We removed the debris and searched the destroyed house to ensure nobody is stuck inside it. We retrieved five bodies beneath the debris. After completing all the legal formalities, the dead bodies were handed over to the locals who cremated them,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, police and civil administration officials visited the place while District Development Commissioner Udhampur rushed to hospital to inquire about the health condition of the injured. He assured all possible help from the district administration. (with PTI, KNT inputs)
