Grand Imam Central mosque seeks release of Mirwaiz Umar

Srinagar: Imam and Khateeb of Jama Masjid Srinagar Maulana Ahmed Syed Naqashbandi FRiday expressed ‘anguish and concern’ over the continuous detention of Mirwaiz e Kashmir Umar Farooq in his house since August 5.
He said this during congregational Friday prayers in Jama Masjid.
Imam Hai said that the month of Rajab has commenced in which revered Shab e Mehraj is observed and the holy month of Ramadan is arriving, continuously detaining the Mirwaiz who is the religious head and disallowing him from carrying out his religious commitments and obligations at Jama Masjid and other mosques is most unfortunate and a matter of concern for the Muslims of the state.
He said the sentiments of thousands of Muslims who visit the Jama masjid to participate in the “Majlis e waz” rendered by the Mirwaiz are deeply hurt.
Imam Hai appealed the authorities to release the Mirwaiz and all those arrested since August 5 unconditionally.
He also said special prayers were held against the spread of the coronavirus across the globe and the prevention of its spread to the valley.
Imam Hai appealed to imams of all mosques to make duas against its spread and also appealed to all people to individually and collectively to pray to the almighty and do Tauba Istigfar in these trying times.
