Srinagar: Court has quashed the detention of three banned Jamat-e-Islami leaders including the spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali under Public Safety Act.
Sources said that one Mehraj Azeem had filed a petition in the court of law challenging the detention of three Jamat-e-Islami leaders including spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali, Muhammad Sikandar Malik and Sameer Ahmed Wani.
The petitioner who was represented by Advocate Musaib Ahmed had termed the detention of these leaders as ‘illegal and uncalled for’.
He had stated that Zahid Ali is a renowned lawyer who never indulged in any act that could be described as anti-national.
Pertinently, after the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir last year in August, government in an unprecedented crack-down on political and apolitical parties had arrested hundreds of people including three former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir.
The court of Justice Tashi Rabistan after hearing the arguments described the PSA on these leaders as ‘uncalled for’ and quashed their detention under Public Safety Act. (KNT)
