Srinagar: A Srinagar girl has come up with a unique initiative to assist the women folk in Srinagar in case of any medical need by making all the necessary items available at the ladies conveniences in the district.

Irfana Zargar, daughter of Late Ghulam Hassan Zargar has so far covered at least five ladies conveniences in Srinagar and is planning to cover at least 15 ladies toilets in the district.

Irfana who resides in Nowshehra area of Srinagar said that she has made necessary items available in five ladies toilets so far, adding that the items include sanitary pads, panties, Antispasmodics, hand washes, sanitizers and other things.

She said that this initiative was taken to assist the women folk in need. “I found it necessary to help the womenfolk especially in this way,” she said, adding that the emergency material will be made available to them without any cost.

Zargar, who works at Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on consolidate basis, said that she has just started the process and has so far covered only five ladies toilets, adding that in this month, she will be covering 15 toilets across Srinagar.

She added that not only in Srinagar alone, she is planning to cover the ladies conveniences in other district as well in the future. “My father always desired to see me assisting the people. Therefore, I found it very necessary to help the womenfolk in this way. I have also constructed a ladies toilet in Srinagar and will try to help the people in the future as well,” she added.

“I have titled the initiative as ‘Eva Safety Door’. My top priority is to extend my contribution towards my society. I generated this idea ahead of Women’s Day. What I have done is that I framed a concept and execute in a way to make every necessary stuff available which is foremost important for a woman during menstrual days at main public washroom being used by females at Lal Chowk and adjoining areas,” she said.

“Besides making the stuff available, I will also aware the people about the menstruation which is a health issue,” she said.

Irfana is also coming up with other initiatives in the coming months to assist the people in need. (KNO)
