Cop and a civilian killed in Sopore militant attack
Sopore: Militants in North Kashmir’s Sopore town targeted two cops in plain clothes when they were buying meat from a butcher. The attack left a cop and a butcher dead while another cop has been shifted to hospital in serious condition.
SSP Sopore Javaid Iqbal told Kashmir News Trust that two cops Wajahatullah and Showkat Ahmed had gone out from police post Warpora and when they were buying meat from a butcher’s shop, suspected militants resorted to firing injuring all the three persons including two cops.
He said that Wajahatullah died on spot while the butcher Umar Subhan Wagay succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. “Showkat Ahmed, the third injured cop has been hospitalized, “ he said.
SSP said that it was not an attack on police post.
Police shortly after the attack, cordoned off the area. Search operation was in progress till the filing of this report. (KNT)
