Anantnag: Depicting the state of education sector in the state, a middle school in Kharpeth Larnoo area South Kashmir’s Anantnag district having enrollment of over 100 students is functioning from just four rooms.

The situation is most of the times forcing teachers to take class of students of three different classes as the school is faced with a severe problem of providing space to the students and the teachers alike.

The school has been upgraded in 2009 and since then the authorities have forgotten to upgared the basic infrastructure, including space in this institution.

“This school in Vailoo belt of Anantnag district depicts the grim scenario of the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir. The infrastructural standards of this school puncture the tall claims of the government,” said some locals, who are concerned about the students enrolled here.

“The teachers are putting in their hard work and due to which the student enrollment in this school is far better than other schools,” they added.

“The school has been witnessing a sever crisis and if things are allowed to function like this, the students will have no other option than to leave this school,” said a teacher posted here.

“We have just four rooms here, among the four rooms one is used as office while as just three rooms are spared for the students. This is highly objectionable,” he added.

Locals said that the local kids are so enthusiastic about seeking education that they cross a canal in order to reach their school.

“The irony is that the authorities have failed to even construct a small bridge as well so that the students can escape the risk of drowning in the canal incase the water level rises during summer season,” Fayaz Ahmad, another local said.

Zonal education officer Vailoo, Aijaz Ahmad, when contacted accepted that there are problems in most of the schools falling in Vailoo zone in terms of infrastructure.

“We have informed the higher ups in the regard,” he said, adding that the issues will be solved at an earliest.
