Writes to Sonia Gandhi, asks her to assure that Congress will restore Art 370 after elected to power

Srinagar: Hinting at his disaffiliation from the ‘Grand Old Party’, former Bandipora legislator from Congress, Usman Majeed has removed his Congress identity from his official twitter handle.

The removal of his Congress identity from his official twitter handle comes weeks after the Congress party sent a show cause notice to him after he along with scores of other mainstream leaders met European parliament delegation here in Srinagar.

The former MLA removed his Congress identity from his official twitter handle on last evening.

Pertinently,  Majeed was also seen in the meeting of scores of mainstream leaders headed by former Finance Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari that was held recently in Jammu.

Sources said that soon after receiving a show cause notice, Majeed has sent a formal letter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi wherein he has sought apology from Congress for betraying the trust of people.

Reliable sources said that the former legislator has mentioned that it is true that people are angry with the August 5 decision of the government, but people are equally angry with the Congress who dragged the special status to the position where a few seconds were enough for the BJP to scrap it once for all.

He as per sources has also mentioned that the Congress must come clear whether it will restore the special status to Jammu and Kashmir when it will come to the power.

“For the people in Jammu and Kashmir, both BJP and Congress are equal as the party has failed to come up to the expectations of people in last six decades, that resulted in present mess in Jammu and Kashmir,” sources quoted the letter from Majeed as having said.

Majeed when asked about the removal of his Congress identity from his official twitter handle, said that soon after sending a show cause notice to him, the Congress party is yet to clear his position in the party.

“I don’t know whether I am in the party as there was no answer from the party so far. Therefore, I have removed my Congress identity from my official twitter handle,” he said. (KNO)
