Srinagar: Authorities on Tuesday morning suspended traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only all-weather linking route to Kashmir Valley with the rest of world.

“We have suspended traffic as a precautionary measure on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Tuesday morning due to fresh snowfall on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel”, official said and adding “intermittent shooting of stones in Ramban area is also the cause of traffic disruption on highway”.

Official said that few inches of snow had already accumulated at Jawahar tunnel due to which road has become slippery.

He, however, maintained that traffic will be allowed only after an improvement in the weather.

He said “we cannot allow traffic without receiving green signal from the traffic officials and Border Roads Organization (BRO) who upkeeps the highway”.

He also said that over 1500 vehicles have been stuck in Ramban, Banihal areas which have experienced fresh snowfall and heavy rains since Tuesday morning. (JKNS)
