Traffic Management: Div Com devises regulations

SRINAGAR: In pursuance to the directions given by  High Court in respect of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding traffic management, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting in which he devised regulations to curb traffic congestion.

The Divisional Commissioner constituted six no parking zones including Lal Chowk to Dalgate, Lal Chowk to Jehangir Chowk, Jehangir Chowk to Naaz Crossing, Secretariat road to Batamalo and Jehangir Chowk to Karan Nagar.

He directed the Traffic department to ply Speaker Mounted Vehicles on the said zones and National Highway, to announce no vehicle is allowed to park on the roads, and asking the drivers to use designated parking slots only for parking vehicles.

Traffic department was asked to deploy traffic police teams and SMC to use enforcement wing to stop wrong parking. One magistrate will be provided by DC Srinagar for each zone.

SMC authorities were asked to install no parking signage in the zones within three days while, the entire exercise will be monitored by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar.

The Divisional Commissioner also issued directions to concerned DCs and SP Traffic (Rural) that no parking should take place on the National Highway.

He stressed officers to implement these directions in letter and spirit so that no traffic violation takes place.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal, Additional Commissioner Kashmir, SSP Traffic, RTO Kashmir, Commissioner SMC, Superintending Engineer R&B and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
