Locals stage protest after forces thrash butchers

Pulwama: A day after Kashmir’s transition into a Union Territory, Government Forces according to people have started meddling in civilian affairs.

Reports about troops targeting butchers selling beef in Bundzo Pulwama, Sumbal Bandipora and North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have surfaced.

Locals from Bundzo village of Pulwama staged a protest after a party of forces personnel thrashed butchers selling beef in the village. The protesters raised pro-Kashmir slogans and urged upon district administration to look into the matter.

The locals also alleged that a group of forces personnel emerged in the village and beat up butchers selling meat. They said that soldiers warned butchers of dire consequences in case they sell beef in the village.

In Baramulla also people protested against the high handedness of forces personnel for threatening butchers selling beef. The protesters said they will hit the roads on daily basis if forces personnel target the butchers again.

Locals from Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district said that butchers selling beef here have been asked to report at the forces camp. The locals threatened protests in case they are warned by the forces again on selling beef.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan said that he will comment on the issue only after verifying the facts. (KNT)
