Srinagar: Rajiv Jain-the former Director of Intelligence Bureau may likely be appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, reliable sources said Friday.
Notably, Jammu Kashmir was recently striped of its special status and bifurcated into two Union Territories; viz: Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
Sources said that Government of India has finalized the name of Rajiv Jain. Sources added that if everything goes right, Jain will become the first LG of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rajiv Jain attained superannuation in June 2019. He had succeeded Dineshwar Sharma-the former one man interlocutor send by BJP Government to Jammu and Kashmir.
Jain is a 1980 batch senior ranked IPS officer. He is from the Jharkhand cadre and was appointed on January 1, 2017 as the 26th Director of Intelligence Bureau after the Dineshwar Sharma retired from services.
Rajiv Jain is the recipient of President’s Police Medal and has served in various departments of the Intelligence Bureau, including the sensitive Kashmir desk. He has also served as an advisor to the previous NDA government’s interlocutor on Kashmir, KC Pant, when talks were held with separatist leaders like Shabbir Shah. (KNT)
