NC weighing options to participate in BDC polls: Sources
Srinagar: As the Block Development Council (BDC) polls are slated to be held on October 24, the National Conference (NC) is contemplating ways to participate in the elections.
Sources said that in the recently held meeting with the NC leadership, the visiting leaders were directed to meet the Sarpanchs and Panchs to ensure their support in the polls.
The party has so far remained tightlipped over its participation in the upcoming BDC polls but the leaders have expressed their personal views in this regard, stating that participation in the polls will not be possible as the leadership continued to remain under detention since August 5, when the central government repealed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the State into two Union Territories.
Reliable sources said that the party leadership has decided to do a ground work prior to announcing its decision about its participation in the BDC polls. They said that party will take a final call in this regard soon.
However, they added that the party has asked its workers to gear up and compile a report within days so that they will be able to take a decision in this regard very shortly.
They said that the party after taking the feedback from the grass root workers will announce its decision publically.
The BDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on October 24 while the State unit of Congress has decided to boycott the polls, citing the continuous detention of its leaders from the last 66 days, stating that the polls in JK are being held only to facilitate one party. (KNO)
