Locals allege forces’ highhandedness

Shopian: An improvised explosive device blast took place in Watchi area of Shopian at predawn hours of Friday in which an army vehicle suffered damage.
An official said that a vehicle of 55 RR was targeted with IED that was planted along the road on Watchi-Darbagh road in Shopian district at around 3 am on Friday.
The official said that the vehicle suffered a minor damage however, there was no injury or casualty in the attack.
Locals said that the loud bang of the IED followed by firing created panic in the area.
They said that soon after attack, several locals were beaten to pulp.
Forces barged into nearby houses and thrashed several people, they said adding that four people were thrashed severely and were later hospitalized.
Many youths were also thrashed later in the day, they alleged.
A police officer when contacted said that they had not received any compliant of thrashing from locals.’
He however, said that matter will be investigated.
