Guns continue to roar along LoC

Srinagar: A 50-year-old woman, who was injured in Pakistani shelling in Gurez sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, died at a hospital here on Wednesday, police said.
Rahmi Begum succumbed to splinter injuries at SMHS hospital here in the early hours, a police official said.
He said the woman was injured in the cross-LoC shelling on Tuesday after Pakistani troops resorted to ceasefire violation in several sectors along the LoC.
An employee of the health department also sustained injuries in the incident.
She is undergoing treatment at a hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan armies on Wednesday exchange fresh shelling along the LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and Rajouri in Jammu division.
An army officer said that Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire from across the border in Hajipeer area of Border town Uri this evening.
He said that the soldiers manning the fence also responded the fire strongly.
However, there was no immediate report of any casualty.
Meanwhile, the exchange of fire between the two sides is going on.
A police officer also confirmed the exchange of shelling in Uri and said that police Control room has been alerted in case of any eventuality.
Pertinently, India and Pakistan armies on Tuesday also trade shelling along Line of Control (LoC) in Mohra sector of Uri, Tanghdar, Keran, Jumgund and Gurez.
Elsewhere, Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled mortars along the LoC in Rajouri district, officials said.
Indian troops gave a befitting reply, resulting in heavy damage to Pakistani Army posts and casualties to Pakistani soldiers, they said.
“At about 0030 hours, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of district Rajouri”, a Defence spokesman said.
The Indian Army is responding strongly and effectively, he said.
This is the fourth consecutive day of firing and shelling by the Pakistan Army targeting civilian areas along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts, in which a baby and a jawan were killed and two others were injured.
Pakistan troops had also shelled forward areas and villages along the LoC in Tanghar area of North Kashmir on Tuesday, they said.
On Monday, Pakistani troops had shelled areas along the LoC in Mankote and Shahpur sectors of Poonch district. (with PTI inputs)
