SKUAST-Kashmir Center for Research on Poultry conducts Chick distribution

Srinagar: SKUAST-Kashmir Center for Research on Poultry conducted chick distribution and training programme, a spokesman of the University said.
He said that under NABARD supported Project on “Propagation of elite backyard birds for enhancing egg production in rural areas” being implemented in Districts Budgam, Srinagar and Budgam, the chick distribution programme cum Training on backyard Poultry Rearing was conducted today on 31-07-2019 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Budgam.
Professor Azmat Alam Khan, Associate Director Animal Science SKUAST-K and Principal Investigator of the Project spoke on the importance of backyard Poultry Farming.
He explained in detail the package of practices for rearing the Elite Layer Type birds in Backyard. Later Units of 12 Keystone Chicks were distributed among 40 farmers (20 men and 20 women) hailing from Villages Wadwan and Rawathpora.
Each beneficiary was provided 10 Kgs of feed for feeding the birds during inclement weather. Giving details of the Project, Professor Azmat Alam Khan explained that Project was aimed at popularising Layer Farming in the Valley.
He hoped that the Villages covered under the Project shall act as model for replication in nearby villages. Dr Naseer Ahmed Dar Programme Coordinator elaborated upon the transfer of technology in Agriculture and allied sector from KVK Budgam.
Prof Azmat appreciated the efforts of investigators of the NABARD project for including beneficiaries from district Budgam in the project and hoped the project would go long way in popularising Backyard poultry in the district and realising the national goal of doubling farmer’s income.
