Lauds call by Jammu lawyers, civil society to protect Article 370, 35-A

Srinagar: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), Hakeem Yaseen has hailed the lawyers community and civil society members of Jammu for their unanimous call to strengthen Article 370 and Article 35-A that provides a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Yaseen said that Jammu lawyers “deserve high commendations” for voicing their concern against fiddling with the Article 35-A and Article 370, which guarantees special status to Jammu and Kashmir state.
“Majority of the people now know that Maharaja Hari Singh had brought these laws for protecting the identity and integrity of the state and well being of its people,” he added.
Yaseen said that PDF “responds positively to the call of Jammu lawyers for forging unity among masses to defeat nefarious designs of political opportunists who are hell bent to create a wedge among communities on the basis Article 370 and Article 35-A”.
Over the proposal of holding an All Party meet, Yaseen said his party was “ready to support any such initiative that was aimed at protecting the special status of the state, provided it was based on sincerity of purpose”.
Yaseen however said that the local parties were “habitual of double speak.”
“They speak in one language within the state and different language outside the state that suits their motives,” he alleged.
Without mentioning any particular party, Yaseen said, “A political party, vouching for unity on the issue of Article 370 and Article 35-A, has recently overtly or covertly supported passage of Triple Talaq Bill and RTI Bill in the Parliament whereas other party was seeking a hearing from centre on the issue”.
“Then what is the ‘All Party Meet’ for?” he questioned.
He said people of the state “understand well the double speak of these political establishments and they can’t be befooled anymore”.
“In fact, majority of the people in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have understood well the significance of Article 370 and Article 350-A of the Constitution of India for their survival and existence and are themselves ready to fight a long battle to protect these constitutional guarantees at all costs,” Yaseen added.
