A statement by NC said that Khan also brought his supporters into the party fold.
Welcoming the new entrant in to the party fold, NC’s vice president, Omar Abdullah said that “posterity will applaud the considerate step of Asgar Sahib”.
“He has chosen to strengthen the efforts towards protecting the special identity of the state. I appreciate his step, and I am hopeful that his coming into the party fold will strengthen the party on grass roots,” he said.
The NC statement said that Khan vowed to make party stronger on grass root level.
The new entrant into the party was given an “astounding welcome” on the occasion by the party leaders, it added.
On the sidelines of the event, Omar asked the workers to forge unity to meet the challenges the state is facing, saying it was imperative for the party workers to take the party program to every door step.
He asked them to increase their engagement with the public.
“The need of the hour calls for increasing interaction with the public. In a democratic set up, it is the people that have to make a final choice. In the parliament elections, the people across the state had overwhelmingly came out in support of NC. There is no scope of complacency,” he said.
Omar said the situation demanded them to be more effective in their engagement with the people.
“In order to meet the challenges it is imperative for all of us to work in unison with each other. The grass root level workers, the functionaries have to gear up and ensure that the party program reaches every house hold. The situation demands a sturdy response from us.”
