Srinagar: CPI (M) leader and former MLA Kulgam Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday asked the Governor Administration to clear confusion over the government orders which have deepened uncertainty in Kashmir over the last few days.
Over Governor’s assertion that the orders on social media, which have created rumor mongering in Kashmir, were “invalid”, Tarigami, in a statement, said that the Governor “needs to clarify whether it is a rumor that 100 companies of additional companies of paramilitary forces are being deployed in Kashmir”.
“One of his advisors is saying the deployment was a ‘deliberate and calculated response to the need of security grid’, while the Governor says the orders being circulated on social media in Kashmir from past few days were invalid,” he added.
Tarigami further questioned whether it was still “only a rumor that another order directing police in Srinagar to collect details of management committees of Masjids has been issued?”
“And are such other orders issued in recent days also rumors? Government needs to clear this confusion. If they claim one of the orders has been issued to take Masjid committees into confidence to check the drug menace, is the menace limited to Srinagar only and why this urgency now?” he asked.
Tarigami said that the government should have also taken civil society into confidence if it wanted to check drug abuse.
“For what purpose these exercises are being done, people want to know. If government claims that militancy, stone pelting and violence is decreasing, what purpose are the additional troops being deployed in Kashmir for? For what purpose this ground test is being done?” he asked.
The CPI (M) leader said people in Kashmir were “already in distress and stress due to ongoing violence”.
“There was need for confidence-building-measures to come out of this cycle of disillusionment and depression. Why this shock therapy time-and-again? Enough is enough. Please put a stop to such maneuvers,” he added.
