DDC Bandipora reviews arrangements for Gurez festival

BANDIPORA: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza Monday convened a meeting to review the arrangements for two-day Gurez festival which shall commence from July 30.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tajamul, Assistant Director Tourism and other senior officers of the district were present on the occasion.
It was given out that two-day Gurez festival would be arranged by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with District administration. The main aim of the programme is to highlight the tourism potential of Gurez valley, besides promoting adventure tourism and eco-tourism in the valley. During the festival, numerous vibrant and entertaining cultural programs would be performed by the local artists, theatre artists and school and college students.
Giving the salient features of the Gurez festival, the meeting was informed that conventional handicraft, sumptuous cuisine, music and the rich culture programmes along with various sports activities would be part of the two-day fest.
Meeting was informed that various departments including Department of Handicrafts, Handloom, Agriculture, Horticulture, Industries, Fisheries, Labor and Employment and health will install stall at the festival site.
The departments will showcase their performance and activities being taken up by the respective departments besides informing the public about various state and central sponsored schemes.
A trekking, cycling and bike expedition will also be organized by the department of tourism besides a marathon at Dawar in which students and local youth will participate. A seminar and symposium shall also be organized at Government Degree College Gurez on the topic Eco-tourism.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner directed all the departments to install their stalls well in time and assured every possible support the department of tourism to make the festival a grand success. He asked officials of tourism department to arrange boarding and lodging for visiting tourists besides other related arrangements.
