DC Anantnag discusses strategy for eradication of drug abuse
ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Khalid Jahangir Monday chaired a meeting to discuss and work out a strategy to weed out the menace of drug abuse in the district.
ADC Anantnag, ACD, all the SDMs, DSP Headquarters, Dy. CMO, Dy. CEO, DEPO, all the Tehsildars, Assistant Controller Drugs, Anantnag, In Charge Excise Department Anantnag, In Charge Drug De – Addiction Centre Anantnag, representatives from all the Government Degree Colleges of the district and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
Role and responsibility of all the stakeholders with special responsibility on educational institutions, general public and parents were discussed in detail.
The DDC stressed on working in mission mode to save youth from the menace of drug abuse. He instructed creating mass awareness through educational institutions, Judiciary, NGOs, religious organisations, civil society and media by organising debates, symposia, seminars and rallies so that the public is directly involved in the process of keeping our youth away from getting addicted to the drug abuse and a drug free environment is created in the district. He further said that special counselling with regard to the menace of drug abuse must be included in the morning assemblies of all the schools of the district on daily basis in order to stop it from becoming an epidemic.
Assistant Controller Drugs Anantnag was asked to organise a workshop in the coming week regarding finalising the strategy to curb the menace of drug addiction, involving all the stakeholders. He also instructed for constituting a special task force, to frame the strategy for stopping the entry and sale of drugs in the district.
The DC stressed up on the law enforcing agencies to intensify the raids and special drives against the drug peddlers and others involved in drug trafficking.
