CB files charge sheet in financial fraud case

SRINAGAR: Crime Branch on Saturday filed a charge sheet against six individuals for defrauding people through a non-banking financial company in Jammu.
The CB identified the accused as Tariq Mehmood son of Mohammad Aziz resident of Chhungan Mendhar, Zaffar Iqbal son of Nizam-din resident of village Salwa Mendhar, Zaheer Abbas son of Tasveer Hussain resident of Chhungan Mendhar, Imtiaz Ahmad son of Mohammad Aziz resident of Chhungan, Murtaza Ahmad son of Mohammad Bashir resident of Chak Banola and Shazia Kounsar wife of Tariq Mehmood resident Chhungan Mendhar and produced them before the court of JMIC Mendhar.
All the six accused persons are presently in judicial custody, the CB said.
After establishing the company ‘Hables-e-Commerce Pvt. Ltd’, the accused, the CB said, “made un-reasonable assurances to the investors regarding pay back of double the invested amount within a period of one month”.
It said that the accused influenced the locals of the area to invest in the said company.
After people from Rajouri and Poonch districts deposited huge amounts in the company in the succeeding months, the accused persons went underground with the accumulated money, the CB said.
The case was initially registered at P/S Mendhar and was subsequently transferred to Crime Branch considering the public importance and the amount of money involved.
During investigation by Crime Branch, the accused were arrested and the property and cash worth Rs 1.5 crore approximately was seized.
Besides, eight shops worth approximately Rs 1 crore has also been attached and the bank accounts of the accused persons frozen.
The CB said its investigation has proved the offences pertaining to criminal conspiracy and cheating by the accused persons.
“Further investigation of the case is in progress to identify and prosecute the other persons who were partners in the crime”.
