DDC Ganderbal reviews implementation of SWM

GANDERBAL: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ganderbal, Hashmat Ali Khan Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) and discuss existing gaps in the functioning and future plans of scientific disposal of solid waste in the district.
The meeting was informed that 25 Kanal land has been identified at Kohistan Colony, Safapora for the establishment of SWM Plant for which revenue papers have been submitted to Principal Secretary H&UDD for authentication. The CEO Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) informed that the SDA is segregating the waste and bio-degradable waste is dumped at Achan dumping site.
The DDC stressed for generating a massive public awareness in association with civic and religious bodies, NGOs, students and other stakeholders. He stressed upon the concerned to reach out to the people explaining them about the safe dumping and collection of Solid Waste.
The EO Municipality was directed to provide dustbins to the households in areas of their jurisdiction for proper collection and disposal of waste at the designated dumping sites.
The functionaries of the district-level Pollution Control Board were asked to monitor the existing dumping sites and conduct the regular market checking to restrict the use of polythene and other hazardous material.
The DDC also sought effective disposal of the bio-medical waste by strict enforcement of guidelines right from the point of its generation.
CEO Manasbal Development Authority was asked to start segregation of waste and dispose all bio-degradable waste at the identified area besides non-biodegradable waste should be transported to identified dumping sites.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADDC Shafqat Iqbal, ADC Showkat Ahmad, ACR Nisar Ahmad Malik and other concerned officers.
