Hail, windstorm damages several houses, crops

Srinagar: A student was killed after a tin shed collapsed due to strong gusty winds in north Kashmir’s Hajin village reports said.
They said that a student of 12th standard lost his life, when a cow shed collapsed and fell on him as strong winds hit Mukhdam Yari of Hajin area. The boy has been identified as Tahir Salam Kahnday son of Abdul Salam Khanday of Mukhdam Yari Hajin. Meanwhile, torrential rains coupled with windstorms wreaked havoc as many houses including agricultural land suffered loses across Sopore and Tral villages on Monday evening, reports added.
Reports said that life in Zaingeer belt of Sopore north Kashmir came to a standstill after the area was hit by strong winds followed by heavy rains and hailstorms.
Many houses have been damaged at several places including Dooru, Botengoo, Watlab and other villages of Zaingeer, reports said.
“The hailstorm followed by windstorm and heavy rains continued for 10 minutes and destroyed standing crops at many places. It also damaged many residential houses,” a group of farmers of Dooru village claimed.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Hussain Lily said that the teams have been directed to visit the affected villages to review the losses caused by rains and windstorms.
Meanwhile a Chinar tree was also uprooted near Girls High School Dadasara in Tral area of Pulwama District, causing huge loss to the public property.
A three storey house, some shops, a 250 kv transformer, some vehicles and few motor bikes were damaged due to the fall, but there was no information regarding any loss of life till reports had last came in.
Standing crops and many fruit tress got uprooted, thus inflicting a great loss to the growers, the reports added.
