Restrictions in old city parts on slain militant’s second anniversary
Srinagar, July 12: Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in Nowhatta area of old city on the second death anniversary of slain militant Sajad Ahmed Gilkar Alias Sajad Bila as a precautionary measure, officials said.
“Restrictions have been imposed under section 144 at Nowhatta to maintain peace,” an official said.
Meanwhile, witnesses said that heavy deployment of forces was also made in the area since morning to enforce curbs.
They said it is unlikely that authorities would allow congregational Friday prayers.
Notably, locals have observed a shutdown in the area to remember the slain militant. (with inputs from KNO)
