Heroin addiction increasing in JK: IG Crime

‘Curbing its demand as well as supply’

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime, Syed Ahfadul has said that the heroin addiction in Jammu and Kashmir was increasing, government was putting every effort to curb the menace.
Mujtaba, who was talking to the media on the sidelines of an event in Srinagar, said they were focusing on the parameters of demand and supply.
“It is a vicious circle and we are focusing to curb both including its demand as well as its supply,” Mujtaba said.
He added that besides heroin, the poppy cultivation at various places had been destroyed.
“Police has also opened its drug addiction centre. The drug addicts are basically ill and we need to treat them carefully. These addicts are getting medicines, besides counseling session and religious sessions are being held for them,” he said.
The IG Crime asked people to cooperate with the police to contain the rising drug abuse.
