DGP sanctions Rs 5.91 lakh as scholarship for wards of deceased personnel

SRINAGAR: Director General of Police Dilbag Singh has sanctioned a scholarship amount of Rs 5.91 in favour of the wards of personnel, who have either died in the line of duty or due to natural reasons or accidents.
A police statement issued Saturday said that Rs 3.61 lakh scholarship amount had been sanctioned in favour of 48 wards of 32 personnel who have died in the line of duty.
The wards, police said, are studying in different classes from primary to graduation level and scholarships had been provided at different rates in order to help the wards to continue their education.
The scholarship has been provided out of Central Police Education Fund for the academic year 2018-2019.
Similarly Rs 2.30 lakh scholarship amount has been sanctioned in favour of 46 wards of twenty seven deceased police personnel who died due to natural or accidental deaths while in service, police said.
Police said that under the welfare schemes in vogue, scholarships are provided to two wards of deceased police personnel at different rates from primary to PhD level for every academic session.
During the year 2019, over Rs 12.69 lakh has been sanctioned as scholarships in favour of 184 wards of 85 police personnel, who have died in the line of duty.
Besides, Rs 4.80 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of 96 wards of 31 deceased personnel due to natural death as scholarship during the same period.
