Even maternity leaves are being availed for third issues, say officials

Srinagar: With no check from the higher ups in the department, the teachers particularly females are fraudulently managing the long leaves which are not entered in their service records.
This fraud is being done by the teachers in league with the officials at district and zonal level.
“These teachers avail long leave but they are never entered in their service records. Some Babus and low rung officials manage to draw their salary by taking 50 percent share of it,” a top source in the department said.
Not only this but some of the female teachers are given maternity and child care leave for the third issue which is not permissible in the department,” the source said.
An official said the teachers are connected to power echelons in the administration and attend their schools vary rarely by using their influence in the department.
“The wives and other near ones of bureaucrats are given these relaxations at the cost of the future of students,” the source said.
Most of the complaints are from north Kashmir districts wherein a selected lot of female teachers are given undue relaxation by the department fraudulently.
“Even if complaints are registered with concerned zonal education offices and chief education officers, no action is taken against these teachers or the officials who are hand in glove for doing these frauds,” a top official said.
Earlier, complaints were received that three teachers posted in north Kashmir district have shifted to gulf but the officers at zonal level are managing to draw their salaries fraudulently.
“Fifty percent of the salary is taken by the official while as half of the salary is credited into the account of the teachers,” the official said.
In past, several cases had come to fore wherein teachers had managed prolonged leaves in the department without mentioning it in the service records but the cases were hushed up after pressure was exerted on the officials who tried to bring the matter to the fore.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Muhammad Younis Malik said the matter will be looked into.
“Since I assumed the charges, I didn’t come across any such case but I will convene a meeting in the department. The issue will be discussed,” he said.
