DDC reviews progress of Apiculture, allied sectors

ANANTNAG: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Khalid Jahangir Thursday reviewed the progress made by the Apiculture and allied departments in the district.
The meeting was also attended by registered Bee Keepers of the district.
While informing the meeting about the functioning of Apiculture, it was given out that 3538. 58 quintals of honey were produced in the district during 2018 – 19, while as 277. 97 quintals of honey were produced during the spring of 2019.
As many as 19575 bee colonies/hives including 147 under government sector and 19428 under private sector are functional in the district, the meeting was told.
The DDC directed the Apiculture department to provide technical support to the bee-keepers. He also assured the bee-keepers that all possible and required help including transportation, permission for night journey for the safety of the bees will be ensured.
The DDC also distributed registration letters among 20 bee-keepers for the establishment for their units under the Apiculture sector. He also directed KVIB and JKEDI to provide financial assistance to the bee-keepers. He also stressed for production of quality honey and to refrain from the adulteration.
