Several Shopian roads dilapidated, commuters suffer

Shopian: Several vital roads in Shopian district are in a dilapidated conditions even as authorities have failed to repair these roads.
The roads which are in very bad condition include Wasawhal-Hajipora road, Hind-sitapora road, Gabbar pora-Vedpora road and Gabbar pora- Daramdora road.
Residents of Wasawhal, Shangran, Chotigam and its adjacent areas said that Wasawhal-Hajipora road hadn’t been macadmised for the last 15 years due to which locals mainly students, patients and elderly people were bearing the brunt.
Locals from Hind and Sitapora areas also said that Hind-Sitapora road was in very bad condition and needed to be macadamized at an earliest so that locals can have sigh of relief.
They accused the government of neglecting the area.
Locals from Gabbar pora, Mughal pora, Mazhama, Daramdora and Vedpora alleged that they did not even remember when Gabbarpora- Vedpora, and Gabbarpora-Daramdora roads were macadamized.
The dilapidated roads, they said, gives tough time to the commuters and passersby.
They said that they had brought this issue in the notice of all district level officers but their problem was not solved
Executive Engineer Roads and Buildings Shopian Abdul Qayoom Kirmani said that for Wasawhal-Hajipora and Gabbarpora-Daramdora roads they had already wrote to higher ups and hopefully both the roads will be macadamized soon.
He however, said Gabbar pora-Vedpora and Hind-Sitapora roads were not in this year’s plan.
“They however can be included if higher ups provide funds for the same after intervention of DDC Shopian,” he added.
