After ‘Kashmir Vision’ report KU authorities announce curriculum details

Srinagar: The authorities in Kashmir University (KU) have notified the academic calendar for the first semester batch of post graduate students -2019 which will come into effect from July 08 this year.
The development comes day after ‘Kashmir Vision’ reported about the failure of the varsity to start the class work for the students who qualified the PG entrance in April this year.
The commencement of the class work for the current batch of students was delayed for two months.
On Wednesday, the KU administration notified the academic calendar and directed all the departments to implement the same in “letter and spirit.”
“This is for the information of all the heads and directors of the main and satellite campus that the academic calendar shall be observed for the first semester students in letter and spirit,” reads a circular issued by deputy registrar academic affairs of KU.
As per the academic calendar prepared by the varsity, the orientation of the students selected in various departments will be held on July 08. The orientation will be followed by the formal commencement of class work from July 09 to November 02 this year. “The class work will be held for 17 weeks,” the circular reads.
It reads that the students will be given eight days for preparation of exams from November 03 to 10.
As per the circular, the examination of students for core and DC courses will commence from November 11 to 25 for a period of 15 days.
“The examination for GE and open elective subjects will be held from November 28 to 30, for three days.
An official said the academic calendar has been prepared with an aim to ensure that the semester gets completed within a stipulated time period which will pave way for completion of degree in a time bound manner.
“Because from November, the KU has decided to start admission process for another batch of students who will start their classes from first week of March,” the official added.
However, the varsity administration is skeptic about the issuance of the academic calendar. “We are all aware about the situation in the valley. The exams get delayed due to strikes and curfews which ultimately put the students at the receiving end,” an official said.
