Demands probe into developmental projects in the area

Karnah: AIP President, Er Rasheed Tuesday questioned why the border areas of Karnah in north Kashmir remain in headlines “only in times of war”.
On the second day of his three-day visit to Karnah, Rasheed alleged that the entire Karnah valley has been “deprived of its fundamental rights” and people lack basic amenities including roads, water and electricity.
“The so called national media should answer why the border areas of Karnah, Keran, Gurez and Uri remain in headlines only in war times and why don’t ultra-national journalists carry stories describing miserable and heart breaking condition of Karnah inhabitants,” Rasheed said while on a visit to Bahadurkote, Ibkote, Murchana, Panjtara, Haridal, Saidpora, Prada, Amroie, Dhani and Taad villages of the area.
He said it was “heartbreaking that most of the villages at LOC have been caged and their agricultural lands are of no use to them”.
“The civil administration seems to be in deep slumber and it is unfortunate that despite availability of funds in many schemes, the money goes either unspent or is being misused by the corrupt babus”.
Rasheed alos demanded setting up of a commission to probe “whether money has been utilized judiciously in various developmental projects by the concerned authorities”.
“The Governor Administration must certainly enquire why people of Karnah are still living in Stone Age despite tall claims made by governments from time to time about keeping funds available in border areas to address the genuine issues,” he added.
The AIP chief expressed anger over the “dull behavior of defunct administration”.
He said that his party shall “certainly fulfill its duties towards the people and will ensure accountability and transparency in the system”.
Rasheed asked government to “feel some shame for ignoring the genuine aspirations of people of Karnah”.
“Can there be anything more shameful than the fact that people of Seemari, Kadhama, Tooti Haji, Machama and Haridal have to take the grains on their shoulders for the want of ration stores and it often takes them more than two days to take the same from the nearest ration store,” he alleged.
“No one will be allowed to enjoy from the sufferings of people of border areas and those officers involved in turning sufferings of masses into fortunes for themselves will be made accountable and taken to task”.
