Srinagar: Negating the tall claims of Kashmir University (KU) administration to have two admission sessions in the current academic year, the classes of students who qualified the post gradation (PG) entrance test are yet to be started.
Notably, the students qualified the entrance test conducted for admission in PG courses more than two months ago.
“Seven months have passed and KU is still stuck in admission process and no class work has been started so far,” an official said.
He said the waiting list of candidates for various departments is yet to be made public due to the laxity of the Kashmir University (KU) administration.
“The KU had decided to start classes from month of April and the process for second admission session was supposed to be started in August but seven months have passed and KU is yet to start classes for students selected in first admission session,” the KU official said, wishing not to be named.
Earlier, the varsity administration decided to hold two admission sessions this year wherein previous year’s dropouts and fresh students were supposed to be accommodated in the varsity in two separate batches.
In April, the varsity held the PG entrance test for the previous year’s dropout students. “More than two months have passed since we appeared in our entrance test but the classes are yet to be started,” said a student, wishing not to be identified.
Interestingly, after completing the first session in March, which has been now extended to July, the KU had decided to hold combine exams of 5th and 6th semester students in August to enable the students to appear in another PG entrance slated for September–October month.
“But the process has boomeranged and the authorities are yet to complete the first admission session till June. The process was supposed to get completed in April,” the KU official said.
The official said if the pace of the process remains same then the varsity won’t be able to start the classes for second batch of students in September this year.
“There are confrontations between the teaching faculty and the administration over initiating two admission session in one year due to which the process is getting slow. Ultimately it will put the students at the receiving end,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the students who have qualified the PG entrance test have also urged the KU administration to start their classes without any further delay.
“All the waiting lists, if any, should be cleared so that the students will join their classes and complete their degrees on time,” the students said.
Meanwhile, the director admissions KU, Prof Irshad said the classes will start from next week.
“We have completed the admission process and all the vacancies have been filled as well. So we have decided to start classes from Monday,” he added.
