SKIMS celebrates maiden ‘Research Day’

Srinagar: To commemorate Doctor’s Day, SKIMS on Monday celebrated the maiden ‘Research Day’ today at the institute’s Auditorium. During the various scientific sessions held on the occasion, 30 faculty members representing each of the specialty presented their research work on varied topics after selected by a review committee.
K Vijay Kumar, Advisor to the Governor of the state was the chief guest on the occasion and felicitated the SKIMS administration on bringing forth the research done at SKIMS.
Kumar said research opens new frontiers and there should be constant efforts in this direction as the purpose of all knowledge is action, he quoted.
Guest of honors, Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir and Dr Adarsh Chaudhary, Chairman GI Surgery, GI Oncology and Bariatric Surgery, Medanta also lauded the administration for organizing the first of its kind research programme.
They reiterated on localized and indigenous research.
Program coordinator, Dr Ashraf Ganie highlighted the essence of conducting the first Research Day and said that there was a need to do clinical practice in light of the research relevant to local and global diseases.
In developing countries lot of resource is lost in inappropriate use of medicine for which cutting edge research is needed which changes clinical practice, he added.
Dr Omar Javed Shah, Director SKIMS/EOSG appreciated the faculty for their contributions and said the research day which will be held annually was an important event with long term implications.
He said the SKIMS had taken a lead in research at par with global institutions and is a reputed center to produce skilled resource.
He thanked all guests and participants in the event.
The event was attended by eminent scientists and Ex-Directors of the Institution besides students and faculty. Research Day logo was also released on the occasion symbolizing creation of harmonious environment for growth of enlightened minds to generate new ideas for innovation in research.
Dr Muzaffar Maqsood Wani, Co-coordinator of the program presented vote of thanks.
