Students put up a dismal show in bi-annual class 11th exams

Srinagar: The students who appeared in the private bi-annual exams of class 11th have performed poorly in the examination, the result of which was declared by JK Board of School Education (BOSE) on Saturday.
As per the JKBOSE figures around 14647 students including 8618 boys and 6029 girls had appeared in the exams in Kashmir province. Out of this only 49754 students including 2812 boys and 2162 girls have been declared as qualified by the JKBOSE.
Similarly, 514 students including 240 boys and 274 girls had appeared in the class 11th private bi-annual exams in Kargil division. Out of this only 171 students including 91 boys and 80 girls have been declared as qualified by JKBOSE.
The pass percentage of students in Kashmir province is 33 percent- 38 percent boys and 29 percent girls. While as in Kargil, the pass percentage of students is only 34 percent- 33 percent boys and 36 percent girls.
An official in JKBOSE said most of the students who appeared in private bi-annual exams had earlier declared as disqualified in annual regular exams conducted by JKBOSE. “And some of them have again failed to qualify the exams which has set alarm bells ringing for the department keeping in view the poor academic standards in government schools,” an official said.
The J&K Board of school education (BOSE) in February declared the result of class 11th annual 2018 exams with an overall pass percentage of 63 percent.
As per the JKBOSE figures, around 62101 students-32227 boys and 29874 girls had appeared in the exams out of which 39406 students- 19284 boys and 20122 girls have been declared as qualified.
As per the figures, girls performed better than the boys with over all pass percentage of 67 percent while as aggregated pass percentage of boys is only 60 percent.
“The performance of class 11th exam was poor as the exams were first time conducted by JKBOSE after a gap of over two decades,” an official said.
Earlier, education department used to conduct annual exams of class 11th students at school level wherein students would not take the exam seriously.
“Now, we expect that the students will take class 11th exams seriously and perform well in exams next year,” the official said.
