Srinagar: With President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir extended by six more months, Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) President and former minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir Saturday said that there was no alternative to the democratic rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said elections should be held immediately so that people get their elected representatives at an earliest.
Mir who had visited Baba Reshi area of Tangmarg constituency on Saturday termed the Union Home Minister’s statement wherein he had stated that assembly elections JK will be held later this year as “better late than never”.
The former minister also interacted with the people the area who apprised him about various issues.
Mir also lashed out at local Auqaf Committee, saying that people were not satisfied with the work being done by them.
He said the shrine lacks everything including proper sanitation, lights, car parking, park maintaining, washrooms and other things.
“I also came to know that Auqaf member has made the Auqaf a money minting machine,” he said, adding that the work on shrine that is going on since 1997 is yet to be completed.
He also said that the hike in rent of shopkeepers was also being done against the contract, which has led to the sufferings of people.
Mir said that people had demanded a local Waqf Board to take care of the shrine and other things “but the plea has been turned down”, he alleged.
Mir also raised the demand of the people of Gulmarg for construction of Masjid and identification of land for the same.
