Militants forces engage in a gunfight in Budgam village
Srinagar, June 28: A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday during the wee hours.
Reports said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam late last night.
Confirming it, a police official said that the cordon was laid following inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team intensified searches at around 3:15 am, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire and hurled a grenade, the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
