Pulwama: A government primary school in south Kashmir’s Pulwama village might have attracted the highest number of students in the education zone, however, the dearth of basic facilities at the institution is forcing many students to quit the school at an early age.
With over 80 students on roll, Government Primary School at Khan Mohalla Naina in the district was established almost a decade ago in the year 201.
However, the school has only three rooms in which the teachers have to adjust six classes apart from the school equipment.
Many parents prefer to enroll their wards in other schools as the school lacks in all the basic facilities, a local said.
A student told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that students of two classes were kept in one room.
He said neither the teachers can teach students effectively nor the students were able to grasp lessons properly.
Besides dearth of space classrooms, he said the school had no drinking water facility for the teachers and students there.
Despite being situated on the bank of river Ranbiara, the school has no fencing either thus there remains a threat of drowning of the small school kids, said a teacher posted there.
“We have purchased the land behind the school on our money and there is enough space to construct other building,” he said.
The locals said that they had apprised concerned authorities so many times but to no avail.
Zonal Education Officer Tahab, Mohammed Hayat Najar said they had already taken up the issue with higher authorities and they will start work once the funds were made available.
