Anantnag: It has been three weeks now that Mohammed Rafeeq Drangay son of Ghulam Nabi Drangay, a 24 year old youth who is the sole bread earner for the family has gone missing from his home in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara area. The family has appealed their son to come back fearing that he might have joined the militant ranks.
Mohammed Rafeeq Drangay, a resident of Hayar village about 3 Kms from Bijbehara town according to his family went missing on June 02, this month and since then there are no traces of him.
His father Ghulam Nabi said that Mohammad Rafeeq was working as a salesman in his native village and on June 02 he went for his routine work, however, he did not return back.
“As he failed to report back at his home in the evening we called him on his phone repeatedly. But it was switched off,” he said, adding that they called all their relatives and his friends but could not find no trace of him.
“After failing to trace him, we filed a missing report at Police station Bijbehara on June 03,” said Ghulam Nabi.
“After passing his 12th class exams he was managing all his family affairs as well as affairs of his uncles family who had died few years back,” said a visibly shaken Ghulam Nabi.
“We are in deep shock since he left home and we request every organization he may intend to join or has joined to let him return back as his mother is suffering from a heart ailment and I too am suffering from paralysis,” he said.
The family also appealed the government to help them trace their missing son.
“He has left behind a big family including five sisters and ailing parents,” a local said.
Pertinently, Hayar village has seen no local youth picking up arms.
“Even in 90’s not a single youth from this village chose the path of violence,” said a local wishing not to be named.
“We cannot bear his separation. So we appeal all including the government to help us trace him,” said a visibly shattered father.
Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that the family has lodged a missing report.
“Investigations have been taken up to trace out the missing youth, but as of now we cannot confirm anything,” said a police official.
