In protest, locals plant paddy saplings on potholed Yaripora-Kulgam road

Kulgam: Residents of several villages of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning staged protested against the local administration for failing to repair the vital Yaripora-Kulgam road.
Residents of Kanipora village chose a unique and creative way of exposing the failure of authorities to repair the road as they planted paddy saplings on the road in protest and to highlight poor condition of the road.
Locals alleged that authorities had used sub-standard material on the road last year, due to which the road had developed potholes at several places.
They said that the said road connects over hundred villages to the district headquarters Kulgam bit rued that due to the bad condition of the road commuters and passersby were facing a lot of inconvenience.
“We contacted authorities so many times in this regard but so far no step to repair the was taken by administration,” they added..
Locals once again requested the administration to repair the road in earnest.
Executive Engineer PMGSY Kulgam, Farooq Ahmad Mantoo said that they had submitted a proposal before the authorities for macadamisation and will start work once the project gets approved.
