Pulwama: Lack of basic healthcare facilities is hampering the patient care at Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) Litter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district forcing people to cover long distances for treatment.
The health centre caters dozens of villages with the nearest sub-district or district hospital being at least 15 kms far from Litter,
However, due to lack of electricity, X-Ray machine and shortage of doctors, patients are forced to visit nearby sub district or district hospital, locals complained.
They also complained about the non-availability of power supply and well equipped lab at the centre.
A local said that PHC was established nearly two decades ago, “but since then there is no upgradation and it is running without proper facilities”.
With the result, the populace at main litter, Aglar, Rakh, Zahidbagh, Niloora, Chowdribagh, Rajpora, Chakoora, Astanpota, wahipora, Takiya, Nikloora and adjoining areas of the district dependent on the centre are facing inconvenience, he added.
“There is one General Physician working for many years in the centre and he remains available for three days in the week due to which the centre remains defunct for other four days,” Shabir Ahmad, a local said.
Locals demanded that a doctor be made available at the centre throughout the week and asked authorities to also post a specialtist doctors at the centre.
They also demanded proper medical supplies and other staff members at the centre.
Chief Medical Officer Pulwama, Dr Haseena said that she will look into the matter and the issues will be redressed on priority basis.
