Says peace, development in JK top priorities for party

Srinagar: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G A Mir has said that Congress Party will continue to remain committed to work for the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir whether in power or not.
Mir said the party was duty bound to serve the people to the best of its ability.
In a statement issued Thursday, he said that the Congress “respects the urges and aspirations of the people, while having the legacy of serving the people, equally”.
Mir hit out at BJP government at the centre for doing “mere lip service to people in Jammu and Kashmir regarding employment, development or security situation”.
He said the centre was responsible for the deteriorating condition in the valley as a result of which common people were suffering immensely.
“Besides, there have been huge losses to the state’s economy, traders, education and other business class in JK,” he said.
Mir expressed concern over the prevailing situation and urged upon the centre to take effective measures to ensure safety, security and development of common people, besides ensuring congenial atmosphere in valley.
The uncertainty especially in south Kashmir was the outcome of “wrong policies of previous coalition government in JK,” Mir said.
Mir also urged the centre to initiate the process of development, “which had been started by the UPA I and UPA II, but due to the wrong policies of previous state and central governments, the developmental scenario in the J&K has got derailed as a result of which JK has suffered immensely”.
He also said that the Congress State leadership would meet shortly to debate and discuss various issues of public importance including.
The peace and developmental scenario in all the three regions shall also be discussed, he added.
He also said that the party will hold discussions on organizational matters, besides devising a strategy to deal with the challenges.
