Two-day conference on Cardiology concludes at SKICC

Srinagar: A two day conference of Association of North Zone Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons of India (ANZCTVS), which was held at SKICC, Srinagar concluded on Tuesday.
The conference was organized by Department of CVT, SKIMS, headed by Dr G N Lone.
The valedictory function was presided by Chief Guest, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta Financial Commissioner, Finance department, J&K State.
In his address, Dr Kumar appreciated the role of cardiac surgeons in the society and stressed for optimal use of services and facilities available to them.
Guest of Honour, Prof R K Suri, Ex- Head CTVS Department, PGI Chandigarh and Prof Balram Airan, Ex- Dean of Medical Faculty AIIMS, New Delhi said that the Department of CVTS had been doing an “excellent job and is at par with other cardiac centres of the country in terms of their quality of work they have exhibited during the conference”.
Director SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary to Government during his address highlighted the achievements of the specialty.
Patron ANZCTVS Dr H S Bedi, President and Co-Patron, Prof Ashwani Kumar Suri and Secretary, Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta of North Zone Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons, India appreciated the efforts of Dr Lone and his team.
A SKIMS statement said that the “conference of this magnitude has been organized after a gap of 10 years and was attended by legendary surgeons of the country who are not only famous across India but well-known all over the globe”.
“This conference was unique where Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiologists, Cardiac Anesthesiologists, Perfusion Specialists and others were seen together on the same platform,” it read.
Other speakers included Dr K S Iyer, Executive Director and Head Pediatric cardiac surgery, Fortis Escorts, New Delhi, Prof Balram Airan, Ex-Dean of Medical Faculty AIIMS, New Delhi, currently Director Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences, Jaipur, Dr Yugal K Mishra, Head of Cardiac Sciences and Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon Manipal Hospital, New Delhi, Dr Anil Bhan, Executive Director Cardiac Surgery, Medanta-The Medicity, Dr Ajay Koul, Director Cardiac Surgery, BLK Hospital, New Delhi among several others.
Besides, a huge number of local delegates from SKIMS, GMC, Srinagar, SKIMS, Medical College and Khyber, Hospital, Srinagar participated and presented their research work which was appreciated by the guest faculty.
During the conference, three workshops were also conducted under the supervision of world renowned Course Directors and legends in the field namely, Prof Anil Tendulkar and Dr Ali Zameeron latest techniques. Faculty members and resident doctors of SKIMS, GMC Jammu,GMC Srinagar actively participated in the workshops.
A special session for Perfusion specialists was held under the supervision of learnt guest faculty.
A huge number of Perfusion specialists from India and abroad participated in this session. A Number of scientific sessions with panel discussions were also held which included a unique panel discussion between renowned specialists in the field- Prof Upendra Koul and Prof Ajay Koul under the chairmanship of various legends of the fraternity.
An oration lecture in the memory of Late Prof Abdul Ahad Guroo was delivered by Prof Yugal K Mishra and Prof Mehraj-ud-din, Ex- Director SKIMS, Vice-Chairman Governing Body, SKIMS which was co-ordinated by the Organizing Secretary, Dr G N Lone.
During the oration the attention was drawn towards contribution of late Prof Guroo, his surgical skill, social services and his enormous contribution to the cardiac surgery in particular during his services at SKIMS.
Highlights of the scientific conference included latest trends in management of heart disease with emerging challenges with particular reference to Heart failure and Transplant, Complex Congenital heart disease and their management, Complex CABG, Endovascular techniques, Aneurismal surgeries, transcutaneous valve replacements, VATS and Robotic surgery, latest advances in myocardial preservation and many others.
The speakers including Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Director SKIMS and President Executive Body declared that the conference as “purely scientific with rich academic material and international in standard”.
The contribution and the growth of the specialty of the CVTS was highlighted and was declared “at par with any other centers of the country”.
