CB arrests man for impersonating as official at Chief Secretary’s office
Jammu: Crime Brach Jammu on Monday arrested a man from Talab Tillo area of the winter capital for “impersonating as an official of Chief Secretary’s office”.
Te CB said that the accused has “duped several senior officers of various departments”.
The person identified as Ashwani Bhardwaj son of Shiv Kumar Bhardwaj a resident of JMC 39, House No 223, Mohalla Jhullka, Darbar Garh Jammu is said to have duped the officers of lakhs of rupees by fraudulent means.
The revelation came to fore after Director Tourism, Kashmir filed a complaint against a person claiming to be an officer at the personal section of Chief Secretary’s office.
Bhardwaj had allegedly asked Director Tourism Kashmir to direct the Assistant Director Tourism, Leh to contact on his mobile number 9797578686.
“Accordingly Assistant Director Tourism, Leh contacted the accused and the accused asked Assistant Director Tourism, Leh to deposited Rs 10,000 in A/c No 36341661376 of SBI on the plea that some of his relatives are presently stuck in Leh and are in severe need of money and have no source of means there,” the CB said in a statement.
After Assistant Director Tourism, Leh transferred the said amount into the given account, “Later on enquiry it came to fore that there is no such official in the personal section of Chief Secretary,” the CB added.
The CB said that on preliminary information it was found that the said accused “has duped several other senior officers of J&K by impersonation and fraudulent means and cheated them worth lakhs of rupees”.
After lodging an FIR in Crime Branch Jammu the accused Ashwani Bhardwaj was arrested by special team led by SI Hilal Azhar under the supervision of SP Crime Mushtaq Choudhary.
The accused is presently on police remand and involvement in other cases is being investigated.
