Srinagar: Car dealers in Kashmir Valley are charging “hefty sums” from buyers to get their vehicles registered “in total violation of norms”.
Regional Transport Office had issued directions to the car dealers to charge a fixed sum as fee for registration and for number plate from buyers of the vehicles, but as per the buyers almost all the car dealers charge extra sum of money from them.
“Recently I purchased a vehicle from a dealer who charged Rs 2000 extra from me. When I objected, they blamed RTO employees for the mess claiming that they have to pay them for getting number plates in time,” one of the buyers said.
There are dozens of car dealers in Kashmir Valley who do a sound business.
The buyers alleged that RTO is in slumber and never stop these well-to-do dealers from looting the money from naïve buyers.
When contacted, Transport Commissioner SP Ved asked thes customers to lodge a complaint at RTO so that action can be taken against the dealers who charge more than prescribed fee. (CNS)
