Srinagar: The ‘halting’ of the process of establishing the universities by different religious groups by the Jammu and Kashmir government has put a question mark on its claims about creating high quality infrastructure in the state.
The Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had on Thursday stated that it was his endeavour that high quality education infrastructure is created in the State so that students here need not go outside to seek admissions in colleges and Universities of other States.
However, the statement comes at a time when some of the religious groups here including Jamiat-ul-Ahlihadees and Karwan-e-Islami and Sikh community are seeking permission for the setting up of universities.
The proposal of universities including Trans World Muslim University, Sheikh-ul-Aalam Research, and Technical University, Guru Nanak University and others was sent to the government couple of years ago but the permission has not been granted to the seekers so far.
Locals said that in case the governor was serious to ensure high quality education then, he should also give approval to these organizations for the setting up of universities, which will certainly help in providing the quality education.
Meanwhile, Secretary Higher education, Talat Parvez said that once the decks are cleared, all such proposals whether new or old will be examined accordingly.
He said that the governor has a desire to do strengthening of private investment in higher education sector and his desire has to be drought on policy matters. (KNS)
