Srinagar: Peoples’ Conference senior vice president and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil Thursday welcomed Governor Satya Pal Malik’s statement on eradicating corruption from the state by taking action against politicians and bureaucrats who are involved in corruption scams.
“Some politicians and bureaucrats have amassed wealth through loot and plunder of state’s resources. This is the reason why Jammu and Kashmir tops the list of most corrupt states in the country. We welcome Governor sahib’s statement that he will make public the names of those politicians and bureaucrats who are involved in siphoning off money meant for the state’s poor,” Vakil said in a statement issued here.
Appreciating Governor’s decision to scrap Reliance Group Medical Insurance Policy, Vakil said that the Governor must “name and punish those powerful officers who were involved in the 150-crore scam”.
He said that the Governor “is right in saying that the politicians have misled the people of Kashmir merely for their vote bank politics”.
“The traditional parties have always misled the people of Kashmir to satisfy their lust for power. Time and again, NC and PDP have sold false promises to the people of Kashmir, which has resulted in furthering alienation and disenchantment in the state, particularly in the Valley.”
Accusing NC and PDP of having a “history of shielding and encouraging corruption”, Vakil asserted that both parties “seem to have an undeclared and secret pact to protect each other from any action of law”.
“The brazen patronage to nepotism, corruption and back door entries by the two parties has undermined and alienated hardworking and educated youth of Kashmir”, he added.
Vakil also welcomed Governor’s assurances on maintaining status quo on Article 370 and 35-A.
“Governor’s statement on Article 370 and 35-A is a positive sign. Frequent reports about tinkering with these articles have created an atmosphere of panic and mistrust in the valley. Governor Sahib must impress upon the Home Ministry and seek assurances on safeguarding these Articles so as to remove any uncertainty in this regard.”
