Srinagar: In an endeavour to improve the academic excellence and provide better exposure to the students, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Islamic Denominations Iran.
The MoU is likely to play a pivotal role in the teacher exchange programmes as well. The signing of MoU comes in backdrop of the University decision to provide better quality education and other academic facilities to the students enrolled in the varsity. IUST is probably the first university to sign the MoU with an international University.
On Wednesday, a function was organised at the varsity, Awantipora wherein the MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor, IUST Prof. Mushtaq A Siddiqi and the Rector of University of Islamic Denominations, Iran, Prof Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Mukhtari said the MoU will bring the two universities close in idea sharing, improving academic excellence and also enable teacher exchange programmes which will ultimately improve the overall academic scenario in the University.
He also delivered a lecture at the occasion wherein he spoke about Friedrich Schleiermacher’s theory of Hermeneutics and deliberated on the three modes of Hermeneutics: Classic, Romantic and Philosophical.
“Most of the thinkers are in agreement with the fact that the ‘text is ambiguous’ and thereby emphasize on tracing the intentions of the author to arrive at a final message of the text,” he said.
The function was organised by the International Centre for Spiritual Studies (ICSS) of the IUST.
The MoU was signed during the proceedings of the programme at the varsity.
Prof Mokhtari was accompanied by a galaxy of scholars from Iran which included Dr. Yahya Jahangiri, Vice Rector, UoID, Professor Gholam Reza Raeisian, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran and Dr. Zahrani, Former Deputy of Education Minister of Iran.
Meanwhile, in his address to the gathering, VC IUST said the MoU will be a remarkable step towards further expansion, fostering international alliance and outreach for the university.
“It will facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes, collaborative research and development of various joint projects,” he said.
He said the efforts are on to bring the university at par with other universities in terms of academic excellence as well infrastructural up gradation.
Notably, the IUST has achieved a milestone by enabling it to receive the grants under various centrally sponsored schemes. From past two years, the university has shown fair performance in construction of permanent campuses for the various teaching and administration departments which were earlier functioning in barracks.
“Our aim is to provide better education and exposure to the students,” Prof Siddique said.
