Leh-Manali road thrown open for traffic

Leh: The Border Road organization Wednesday threw open the Leh- Manali road for traffic after remained blocked for over six months due to heavy snow accumulation.
Chief Engineer Project Himank, Brigadier Nitin K Sharma said in a statement that the Leh- Manali road was an important axis and a major responsibility of the BRO to clear the snow.
The road serves as a life line for the people of Ladakh, ensuring essential supplies for winter when the region remains cut off.
The Chief Engineer said that the BRO personnel worked with strenuous efforts to reopen the road.
“Despite sub-zero temperature, high altitude and threat of avalanches our jawans faced unprecedented hardships in the snow clearance operation in the sector to ensure the early reopening of the strategic road. The weather has played spoil sport in the snow clearance,” he added.
A large number of tourists prefer the picturesque landscape to visit Leh from Manali by road.
