Cong, CPI (M) urges governor admin to address genuine demands of transporters

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and CPI (M) have urged the governor led state government to fulfill the demands of transporters, who went on strike on Wednesday
President JKPCC, G A Mir said in a statement that the levying of toll tax, besides installing hi tech system in their vehicles “will put them to further losses”.
He said the other genuine demands of the transporters like document renewal of commercial vehicle, besides speedy renewals and documents verification etc have not been fulfilled so far.
The Government must concentrate on those issues and find solution to these problems, Mir said.
“I would strongly emphasize the Governor S.P Malik to address the genuine demands of the transporters to ensure they are able to carry on their day to day activities,” Mir added.
Mir further said that the one day strike by transporters had caused extensive inconvenience to the common people and government must address the demands of the transporters to avoid further strikes in future.
JKPCC Vice President and former MLC, G N Monga also urged the Governor Administration to look into the genuine demands put forward by transporters of the state.
In a statement issued here, Monga said transport industry “has suffered huge losses in recent years and levying heavy toll tax and asking them to install hi-tech systems in their vehicles will put them under further burden”.
“The transporters have been asked to Install hi-tech gadgets in each vehicle and would cost them a lot of money. One-way toll charges of Rs 285 for an inter-district bus on national highway are another burden,” he added.
He urged the government to look into their grievances and find a solution to the problems of the transporters immediately.
Monga also said the long pending demand of transporters which include speedy renewals and document verification with transport department, must be fulfilled by the Government immediately.
He extended full support to the transport industry and urged Governor Administration to look into the genuine demands of the ailing transport sector without any delay.
In a statement issued here, CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami also said that the one-day strike by transporters had put common people in the state to lot of hardships and Governor Administration must look into the genuine demands put forward by the transporters.
Tarigami alos said that the transporters had suffered huge losses during the last three decades of militancy in the state.
Levying “heavy toll tax and asking them to install hi-tech systems in their vehicles will put them under immense hardships,” he said.
“Installing hi-tech gadgets in each vehicle would cost thousands of rupees to the transporters which would be a further burden on them,” he added.
He said due to the online system, “there are lot of problems in permit and other document renewals of commercial vehicles”.
“The long pending demand of transporters which include speedy renewals and document verification with transport department must be fulfilled by the Government immediately.”
“The Government must find an alternative to this so that the transporters can carry out their services uninterrupted. The transporters are facing lot of hardships in carrying out their routine activities,” the CPI (M) leader added.
He extended full support to the transport industry and urged Governor Administration to look into the genuine demands of the ailing transport sector without any delay.
