Facilities in next few days: CEO

Shopian: In times of smart classrooms, a government High School in south Kashmir’s Shopian district has been operating out of six rooms for ten classes with an enrolment of over 300.
The ordeal of the students at the High School Zampathri in Keller Tehsil of Shopian district can only be imagined when two to three classes are taught inside a single room simultaneously.
Locals said that students of two classes are crowded in one room where teachers teach them simultaneously.
The students also complained that in such a noisy condition, “It is impossible to grasp any lessons clearly”.
While on one hand, government talks about “smart classrooms”, they said that the school “is craving even for basic facilities”.
Teachers posted in the school confirmed that the school lacked the basic infrastructure even as it had attracted a good number of students.
Although an additional building was sanctioned for the school in 2014, but it was “left midway and since 2016 no step was taken to complete the building”, a teacher said.
Headmaster of the school, Mohamad Maqbool said that they had informed higher authorities several times through written communication over the matter.
“But, so far, nothing has been done,” he lamented.
Besides a dearth of space, the school also faces shortage of “around 5 teachers”, Maqbool said.
“Despite knowing the problems of the school, authorities have failed to post teachers in the school, he added.
Locals complained that the authorities had neglected the school, where students, mostly belonging to poor families were enrolled.
The locals as well as students appealed authorities to complete the new building at an earliest to mitigate their sufferings.
Chief Education Officer Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad told Kashmir Vision that two teachers will join the school within a few days “on priority basis and other teachers will be arranged very soon”.
Work on new building will start within few days and it will be completed this year, he added.
